A work of Art

“Each one of us is God’s special work of art. Through us, He teaches and inspires, delights and encourages, informs and uplifts all those who view our lives. God, the Master Artist, is most concerned about expressing Himself- His thoughts and His intentions- through what He paints in our character… He wants to paint a beautiful portrait of His Son in and through your life. A painting like no other in all of time.”

“I will give thanks to You, Lord, for I am beautifully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works.” Psalm 139:14

Can You Make it to the Top?

As I’m reading “Developing the Leader within You” by John C. Maxwell, I couldn’t help but grab my computer and share this with you…because THIS matters, YOU matter!

Learning how to prioritize things in life is difficult (especially for those like me that enjoy pleasing people) but what it all comes down to what realizing and acting upon the things that are of high importance and high urgency. Maxwell gives an example of a group of guys taking up a hike on Mont Blanc in the Alps of France. The main guide warns them “To reach the top, you must carry only equipment necessary for climbing. You must leave behind all unnecessary accessories.” The next morning, one of the climbers, an Englishman, arrived with a colorful blanket, large pieces of cheese, a bottle of wine, a camera with extra lenses, and chocolate bars. Once again, the guide warned him of everything he was carrying but he decided to prove him wrong and he took the lead on the hike. As the rest of the climbers hiked the summit of Mont Blanc, they start to notice accessories being left behind. First the blanket, then the cheese. Later the wine bottle, then the camera equipment and finally some of the chocolate bars. When they reached the top, they discovered the Englishman without any of these unnecessary equipment.

This story is so powerful in the sense that everyday we get to CHOOSE what we will carry on with us for the rest of the day…for that matter, what we will carry for the rest of our lives. So what are you carrying? Are these stuff necessary or unnecessary things? Are they just a weight on your shoulders or is it truly worth it to carry it?

The way I see it, is that at the beginning, just like the Englishman, we pile on  ourselves UNNECESSARY “equipment”…may it be worry-ness, anxiety, impatience, insecurities… but as we move higher on the mountain and closer with the LORD, He opens our eyes to the necessary, to the vital things in life and He frees us up from our insecurities and He promises us to give us and “meet our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” [Philippians 4:19] so we begin to leave behind the colorful blanket, then the cheese, wine bottle, camera equipment and so on until we are left with what matters… in many cases that is nothing, literally nothing but our hearts and our desires to know Him more and dwell in His presence alone.

So let me ask you again, what are you carrying?

Or better yet… what are you leaving behind?

So Father, my prayer is that You would open our eyes to see You, give us clarity and may we become aware of the things we are carrying that You are calling us to leave behind and instead give You the attention and focus You are worthy of. Lord, I thank you for pursuing our hearts daily and reminding us how merciful and graceful You are. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

I choose

Every day i long to be a better woman. A woman that fears the Lord and is humble by His amazing and wonderful GRACE for me. A servant of the Lord who knows that every circumstance that comes in her life will only shape her not destroy her… and Abigail is a perfect example of this type of woman.

In 1 Samuel 25, Abigail is married to Nabal. Nabal is wealthy (v.2, 7-8) yet crude man (v.3). He shouts insults to others (v.14), he’s stingy, not returning kindness or favors (vs.16,21), people dread talking to him because of his temper, he is highly self-centered (v.36) and he likes to drink and party too much (vs.36-37). Now, I’m sure I can speak for many women but I don’t think anyone of us would want to be married to someone with this (and I hope you aren’t), now would we? But let’s remember that this is who Abigail was set up to married… so how would you respond and react to his character? Would you be able to live with a person like this? Would you grow bitter, angry and even argumentative back?.. Or maybe, you know better to learn to let it go and not let it bother you?

Abigail’s character was way different then his. She was smart (v.3), people sought her for wisdom and leadership (vs.14,17). She was decisive, wasted no time worrying or pitying her situation- instead she looked to answers and resolved problems (vs.18,23). She was generous (v.18,27), humble (vs.24,41) and quick to ask for forgiveness (v.28) She trusted God, held her tongue and waited patiently for the right time (vs.36-38).

Abigail’s character is so admirable to me, because although her relationship with Nabal was no easy cake she was strong enough to stand on her own. After many insults and many demeaning words, she never let her spirit die and more importantly she never lost sight of the Lord. She posses true inner and outer beauty and she’s not afraid to show it. Her courageous, humble and loving heart for others encourages me to be like her. She helps me see that I can choose how I will allow my circumstances to shape me and not destroy me.

Proverbs 31:26 “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

Proverbs 15:33 “The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom; and humility comes before honor.”

I’m hungry and thirsty

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will filled.” Matthew 5:6

Time after time we get caught up on our daily schedules. Oftentimes, we forget to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal. We even get as far as making it but don’t finish it because we are on the run. Sometimes, we even cancel on a friend that invites you for lunch…once again, because of our “busy schedule.” How often do we even say “I’m not even that hungry?” or “I’ll come back later and eat.” But what if that was the answer we give God every time He sets special times for us to sit down with Him to be filled by His Holy Spirit? Have we forgotten how much He desires to have encounters with us? Are we losing sight of what it means to sit down at the Table of Grace with Him?
This table was meant for us, sinners. Christ LOVES sinners. In Luke 15 there are three stories, the story of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son. All of these stories have a “happy ending,” Why? because of God’s grace and LOVE for us that He brings us back to Him. But how can we come back? We now know that He INVITES us to the table and pursues our hearts, but how can we do it? First, byhumbling our hearts and second by LEAVING our baggage and sins behind. He came to save us and free us from our sins so we may live a life abundant in love and kindness in His presence. He is so humble that He sits with sinner and tax collectors, how could we not bow down before Him? Now, wouldn’t we love to be like Jesus? but if we think that conversion is a party and maturity a process we won’t get anywhere for we like the party but not the process. So the more time we spend time with Him the easier and more alike we become of Him. At the Table, near-ness turns into like-ness. Three hinderness from becoming like Jesus are lack of desperation (thirst and hunger), lack of discipline (commitment), and abundance of distraction (“busyness”). Our job here is to draw near for He will change us. So are you committing and surrendering your heart to your Heavenly Father daily? At this table you are not sitting alone, you are with other sinners just like you. YOU+GOD=NOT ENOUGH. Christ desires fellowship, He desires unity and that is why He sits us at the table so we may become one. And lastly, His love for us is so LOUD that it cannot be ignore. Once you have found Him and gone back to the Table your life will change, people will notice. Are you ready to pass on this JOY! Always remember that hurry-ness hates interruptions but the Lord has divine interruptions ready for us. The Lord pursues our hearts daily, He is often calling us to sit with Him at the Table of Grace, He desires for our souls to be filled with His truth and love…so be ready to say yes to Him and set life aside for 30 minutes or so to have a meal with Him. I promise you will feel fuller than ever before!
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Psalm 107:8-9

I pray for YOU.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to FILL you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE LORD and please him in every way: BEARING fruit in every good work, GROWNING in the knowledge of God, being STRENGTHENED with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great ENDURANCE and PATIENCE, and giving JOYFUL THANKS to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For HE has RESCUED us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have REDEMPTION, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14 NIV)
